Our smiles play a significant role in how we are perceived by others as well as ourselves. One of the most transformative cosmetic treatments we offer our Sheboygan, WI, patients is porcelain veneers. The wafer-thin porcelain shells cover the front surfaces of teeth to hide a wide range of cosmetic blemishes. Porcelain veneers can even address minor alignment problems and gaps between teeth. This is one reason why porcelain veneers are sometimes referred to as “instant orthodontics.” Dentists Christopher Hill, Matthew Bistan, Marc Stroobants at Signature Dental are here to help you achieve the smile you have always wanted.
Veneers conceal imperfections and provide a dazzling complement to your entire smile.
Benefits of Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers offer many unique benefits. For example, if you have teeth with stains that will not respond to whitening, veneers can conceal the discoloration to provide a healthy appearance. If you have minor misalignment, they can give your smile virtually instant symmetry without having to undergo orthodontic treatment. During a consultation, our dentists will help determine if veneers or another treatment is the best way to give you a more dazzling smile.
Am I a Candidate for Porcelain Veneers?
Many candidates for porcelain veneers desire to address:
- Misshapen teeth
- Gaps between teeth
- Severely discolored teeth
- Small teeth
- Misaligned teeth
- Worn teeth
If you have significant alignment problems, you may be a better candidate for orthodontic treatment. Veneers cannot correct large chips, cracks, or decay. If your tooth has structural damage, you may be a candidate for a dental crown. Candidates for porcelain veneers must be in good oral health. Any underlying dental problems, such as gum disease or decay, must be addressed before your porcelain veneer placement can be scheduled.
Once your veneers are placed, you will need to clean and maintain your new veneers the same way you care for your natural teeth: with good oral hygiene habits and regular visits to our Sheboygan dental practice.
If small flaws in your smile are making you feel self-conscious, veneers can boost both your appearance and your confidence.
How Are Veneers Placed?
Porcelain veneers are placed through two visits to our Sheboygan dental office. During your first visit, the teeth you wish to enhance will need to be prepped. This process involves removing a small amount of enamel from the front of your teeth in order to make room for the porcelain shells. Local anesthesia will be used to ensure that you are comfortable throughout the treatment. We gladly offer sedation options for patients who have low pain thresholds. Once your teeth are prepped, an impression of your smile will be made, and temporary veneers will be placed on your teeth.
After about two weeks, your custom veneers will arrive at our Sheboygan office. One of our doctors will ensure that the shells are a proper fit before bonding them to your teeth. Minor adjustments will be made as needed at that point, and you will be free to return to work or home shortly after. There is no recovery time associated with porcelain veneers, although some patients report sensitivity in the days following their veneer placement. This will subside over time.
